She heavily benefits from Spell master with Atomic Flare and Checkmate both making her upkeep of SP somewhat annoying in late game with how fast she is capable of burning through it when going all out. Makoto's biggest weakness is just how many skills she wants and can benefit from the Jazz bar for.She needs concentrate or the ring of greed to buff her own damage to compete with other main members of your team but when she has access to it Atomic Flare if you choose to keep it or Mafreidyne make her a very reliable output of extra damage in massive bursts.Ĭheckmate is the only way to access AoE debilitate which deserves a nod for it's use in some fights prior to this she can pick up debilitate if you would rather not cast it with Joker. Her trait Gaia's pact is able to boost the status ailment applications of Ryuji, Yusuke, and Ann to set up strong technicals passively and her nuclear attacks are able to trigger them for massive damage.She's incredibly fast and only gets faster when you get access to her ultimate gun which is worth rushing to fuse and gives her an amazing +11 to all stats which due to the stat glitch in P5/R becomes +22 making her cap her stats long before any other party member is even close to be able to.She has decent utility as a healer and if you find yourself needing one she is the best option for healing the entire party without sacrificing offense.

Makoto: Makoto has the best possible hybrid balance of skills that make her useful in any situation while maintaining her as a powerhouse threat for damage. Mjolnir is decent for giving him an extra skill and allowing him to take Elec boost off his main 8 however if you choose to use it. Shock boost is fantastic support for technical fishing when he isn't able to physically damage anything which Makoto's trait and ability to proc it via Nuclear damage only makes the two better.Having Matarukaja for mid-game is also a decent benefit even if it falls off in use later game.His main real weakness that hardly counts for anything on him is just a lack of great stat boosting weapons for him to use. He has incredibly good single and AOE damage via God's hand and Agneyastra.

His third awakening unique skill gives him a somewhat expensive but worthwhile full party charge that's only downside is Makoto's inability to capitalize on it.

His trait raging temper is crazy good having the chance to buff physical attacks an extreme 40% and later 80%. Ryuji: Ryuji is incredible to the point that he is team defining and effects the entire tier ranking with his strengths. I just wanted to give as close I could manage to an objective view on combat strength from my understanding of the game's mechanics through experience. Joker is able to solo the game on his own so whoever you choose should be your personal preference. All the characters are viable at every difficulty level.

Please don't let this color your opinions of your favorite characters is the biggest thing. And how I feel they respectively rank in terms of synergy and party composition. The game by no means requires this at any point but I thought it would be fun to write up a tier list of my opinions on the characters strengths. I've been playing a good chunk of royal now and finished several playthroughs with heavy min-max optimization and playing around with all the possible team comps.
